The same person cannot own a TV and a newspaper, the qualification for a journalist will be a graduate

The Media Reform Commission submitted its recommendations to Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus on Saturday.

The same person cannot own more than one media organization, they must choose between television or newspapers. And if the organization is large or medium-sized, it must be a publicly listed company.

The Media Reform Commission submitted its report to Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus on Saturday, including these recommendations.

Later, at a press conference, Media Reform Commission chief Kamal Ahmed said, "We have also proposed to end cross-ownership. Instead, we have proposed to have 'One House, One Media' in our recommendation."

He said the reason is that black money has entered the media. There is no accountability in the media because of ownership. The owners play a major role behind the crisis in the media industry.

The Media Reform Commission has also recommended that the minimum salary for entry into journalism be the same as BCS grade 9 and that the educational qualification be a bachelor's degree.

Twenty-point recommendations have been made, including enacting a law to protect the safety of journalists, forming a media commission, and launching fact-checking desks in media organizations to stop disinformation and fake news.

Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus spoke to the commission members after they submitted their report in the afternoon.

The chief advisor also said that the interim government will take initiatives to immediately implement the reform proposals received from the Media Reform Commission that are immediately implementable.

The Media Reform Commission was formed in November last year to make the media independent, strong, and objective.
